The High Throughput Screening Core Facility at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York, USA) has an opening for an experienced computational biologist to join our screening group and play a lead role in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, screening data management and integration. The ideal candidate will provide programming support and manages all screening data generated by the group both from chemical and RNAi screens.
Responsibilities. The HT Computational analyst will Design, implement and maintain software tools that use cheminformatic, computational biology and bioinformatics methods to accelerate drug discovery. They will manage large HTS data sets, accessing in-house and external databases for regular updates, integrates and display new data in our custom built screening data management system (ORIS). Manage systems vendor relationships in the data acquisition and material resupply arena. Support functional genomic projects at the center. They will contribute to a team of bioinformaticians and provide hands-on insight and expertise to support ongoing functional genomic projects (RNAi technology) and to provide statistical analyses at the post genomic era. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge and experience in biology and/or chemistry as it relates to drug discovery and systems biology.
Minimum Requirements. Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Biophysics or a related discipline plus 2-3 yrs post-doctoral experience; Detailed knowledge and at least 3 years experience programming in Perl/Python/Java/C++ or similar languages; Experience using Oracle 9i; SQL/PLSQL; Linus (Debian 3.1); Unix (AIX); Perl 5.8x; Java/J2EE; HTML; JBoss, XML; JavaScript; Bash scripting/ tools; PHP; Apache Tomcat; Experience with format and analysis of web server access logs, including web access software analysis packages desirable.
Preferred Experience. Post graduate with wet bench experience in biology or chemistry; Industry experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical/Drug Discovery; Strong publication record in the field of Bioinformatics; Experience in handling large data sets such as screening and imaging data; Statistics: SAS/R/S-Plus/Matlab/Partek; Expertise in data-mining/visualization methods and predictive modeling/simulation techniques relevant to RNAi technology; Demonstrated learning agility; Excellent communication and collaborative skills with the ability to communicate with various investigators at the center; Wide understanding of commercially available bioinformatics/clinical genomics tools and databases
