We are working on the integration of molecular and other biological data with focus on biological discovery and evolutionary insights, and are seeking a computational biologist, preferably (but not exclusively) with expertise in one of the following areas:- Pathway or network modeling (e.g. metabolic and regulatory analysis of bacteria)- Epigenetics (e.g. analysis of methylation patterns in different cell types)- Image analysis (e.g. analysis of cellular phenotypes upon drug and RNAi treatment)- Chemical biology (e.g. incorporation of chemicals into protein or disease networks )- Metagenomics (e.g. incorporation of clinical data into human microbiome datasets )The projects will be adapted to individual strength and preference, but will include method developments and their applications. They are likely in the context of collaborations with experimentalists. In addition to a PhD in a relevant field the applicant should have a publication record that documents the successful finishing of relevant and important projects. We require the ability to work in an international team as well as good communication skills. In addition to expertise in both biology and computation, experience in the analysis of heterogeneous large-scale data and its interpretation to solve concrete biological problems is also desirable. An initial contract of 1 year will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation. To apply, please email a cover letter, CV (in English) and contact information of three professional references quoting ref. no. SJ/09/PD/009 in the subject line, to application@embl.de
