About Serene

Serene is a startup company founded by two young professionals, Ravikumar and Meenakshi, in December 2007. Serene Innovations, a R&D unit of Serene Partners is developing various innovative products targeted at Pharma/Biotech/Life sciences companies. It is looking forward for ambitious final year undergraduate/graduate students who are motivated in learning high end computational biology from leading experts in this domain.

Broad Areas of Interest

Systems Biology:
Graph theory approach to protein network analysis, Building kinetic model for MAP kinase three tier cascade, Oscillations in biological cascades, Modeling role of divalent and monovalent cations in maintaining the vascular tone of smooth muscle and endothelial cells.

Eligibility: B.Tech/M.Tech (Biotechnology/Bioinformatics) with programming skills in C/Perl. Good understanding of Biological interactions and pathways.

Genomics:
Role of Matrix attachment regions in parasite organisms, Role of transcription factors in microorganisms.

Eligibility: B.Tech/M.Tech (Biotechnology/Bioinformatics) with programming skills in Perl/PHP.

Protein sequence analysis
Prediction of phosphorylation sites using Machine learning, Identifying the role of sequence variations (SNPs) in L-type calcium/Voltage sensitive sodium channels/KATP channels.

Eligibility: B.Tech/M.Tech (Biotechnology/Bioinformatics) with programming skills in Perl.

Data Mining
Mining information from the Biomedical literature.
Eligibility: B.Tech/M.Tech (Bioinformatics/Computer Science, I.T.) with good programming skills in C/Perl & exposure to Linux/Unix OS. Exposure to open source philosophy and softwares highly desirable.

Ontology and Databases
Mapping information from BioMedical literature to uniprot, Development of Drug database. Functional Annotation of biological databases.

Eligibility: B.Tech/M.Tech(Biotechnology/Bioinformatics)/M.Sc(Biotechnology/Life sciences) .
