Bioinformatics support specialist reqd.: University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada
The University of Calgary’s Sun Center of Excellence for Visual Genomics is providing bioinformatics support for several new Genome Canada funded science projects. These projects range from single genome assembly and analysis, to transcriptomics and metagenomics. The Bioinformatics Support Specialist will provide bioinformatics support to achieve the goals of the large scale science projects. Working as part of the bioinformatics team, the incumbent will use, modify and develop software for data analysis and data integration. The successful candidate will be familiar with a range of methods and techniques used for bioinformatics data analysis. Required experience and technical competencies include: - Experience in the development and implementation of bioinformatics tools, algorithms, pipelines and software solutions including database resources in the area of bioinformatics. - Experience with bioinformatics tools for DNA sequence and gene expression data analysis and manipulation. - Applied knowledge of the development of Web based tools for data manipulation and analysis. - Experience in development of dynamic, database driven bioinformatics web applications. - Direct experience working with UNIX fundamentals as applied to bioinformatics software development. - Experience demonstrating sound working knowledge of Perl (including object system), C, JAVA and Unix Shell scripting language Successful will have a B.Sc. or better in bioinformatics (or computer science with bioinformatics experience), and will be matched with positions based on their level of expertise.
