PhD student / Fluorescent microscopy for zebrafish tox screen (52074 Aachen, Germany)

PhD student / Fluorescent microscopy for zebrafish tox screen (52074 Aachen, Germany)

We are seeking for a highly-motivated and dedicated individual to join a newly established working group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME in Aachen, Germany. The Fraunhofer Gesellschaft is a non-profit research organisation, undertaking applied research of direct utility for the public and commercial sector, in an international context. The IME offers state-of-the-art applied research to customers for medicine, agriculture and environmental protection.
The following position is currently available for a period of three years:

1x PhD studentship

The overall goal of the Junior Research Group UNIFISH at the IME is to develop novel in-vivo assays with zebrafish embryos, as a cost-effective system for automated, high-throughput toxicological analyses and screenings for bioactive compounds. The successful applicant will join a team that takes an (eco-)toxicogenomics approach to study and assess the effects of chemical insult, from the molecular to the organism-level, in the zebrafish embryo model.

For this PhD position, the ideal candidate will hold a degree in preferably biosciences or related disciplines, like bioinformatics/computational biology, physics or chemistry. The student will primarily be involved in the development of methods and tools for the application of fluorescent microscopy in high-throughput toxicology screening assays. Candidates with different research backgrounds but an interest in the field of environmental toxicology and live imaging are equally encouraged to apply. Basic knowledge in microscopy and some experiences with fish would be desirable but is no prerequisite.

Salary for PhD students will be according to salary grade 13 1/2, Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD) in Germany.
The position is available immediately.

Please send your application including CV and certificates preferably by email.
