Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Symposium (BIOT-2009)
October 9-10, 2009
Lincoln, Nebraska
Welcome to BIOT-2009. This year, the BIOT symposium will be held at Lincoln, Nebraska, hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
This year's Biotechnology sessions will be hosted by the Center for Plant Science Innovation, an interdisciplinary research and training program in the basic plant sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Invited speakers for the Biotechnology sessions include [TBA].
For the Computational Biology sessions, invited speakers include [TBA].
This year's BIOT-2009 will have a sister workshop to be held on October 11, 2009, as part of a NSF-funded project called "Semantic Cyberinfrastructure for Investigation and Discovery", with the objectives of introducing and training participants on the new search tool called Biofinity specifically for bioinformatics data.
Thank you for your interest in BIOT.

ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Extended to July 22, 2009!! Please see Call For Papers/Posters for details on the deadline.

HISTORY

The symposium started in Colorado Springs in 2004. It was held previously at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs (2004, 2005 and 2007), at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah (2006), and at the University of Texas at Arlington (2008). Started as a regional event, the symposium now attracts paper and poster contributions from all over the United States and several foreign countries, from authors of diverse scientific backgrounds. Selected papers from the Symposium have been published in special issues of the International Journal of Bioinformatics Research and Applications (IJBRA). Because of its true multidisciplinary orientation and the high quality of the presented work, interest in this symposium and its reputation have been steadily growing over the years.

OBJECTIVE

The Symposium's objective is to showcase research and development activities in bioinformatics and computational biology, and biotechnology, and to promote future interdisciplinary activity and research in these areas. The Symposium brings together scientists in multiple disciplines: computer scientists, engineers, and researchers from biotechnology, bioinformatics, and the medical research community.

Each field that BIOT attracts has its own tradition. For example, in computer science, it is customary to require the submission of full papers for review several months prior to a conference or symposium. Conferences in other disciplines generally require that an abstract or extended abstract be submitted for review. The organizing committee of BIOT understands these differences, and the speakers will be invited from both accepted papers and abstracts. Accepted papers and abstracts will be printed in the conference proceedings. Abstracts for poster presentation are also accepted.
