IGNOU Vice-Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai inaugurated here on Saturday the certificate programme in Bioinformatics jointly conducted by IGNOU and Kerala University through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) pedagogy.
The MoU for the programme was signed at a function held at the Centre for Bioinformatics of the Kerala University on Saturday.
``Information Technology should be effectively utilised to strengthen distance education. In fact, there should be a specific IT-related teaching programme for each subject. For this, IGNOU will set up an organisation called Institute of Competency for Advancement of Teachers at five centres in the country,’’ V N Rajasekharan Pillai said.
The joint distance education Programme will be for graduates in life sciences, computing, and allied areas of studies. The programme will lead from certificate level to post-graduate degree (MSc) in Bioinformatics.
