PhD position at the Research Institute Health and Society (IRSS)]

The Research Institute Health and Society (IRSS) of the Université
  Catholique de Louvain (UCL) is seeking a PhD candidate, starting
as
  soon as possible

The IRSS is a new institute based in Brussels UCL health sector campus
(Louvain en Woluwe). It aims at providing a research environment
exploring the complex interactions between individuals, populations
and
determinants of health including health systems and services.

A multidisciplinary group of IRSS composed of a statistician, an
epidemiologist, a sociologist, nurses and geriatricians, is currently
developing research on the health determinants of the functional
decline
of the elderly after hospitalization.

This group is now seeking a PhD candidate to work on research entitled
“the development of an agent based model to improve the understanding
of
interrelations between individual and contextual factors and the
post-hospitalization functional decline of the elderly”.

This research project will combine social science tools to build an
initial conceptual model, computer simulation tools (e.g. R or similar
software), statistical and epidemiological tools to analyze the
available health and socio-demographic databases.

The candidate should hold a master degree in social sciences,
demography, statistics, mathematics or health sciences.

He/she should:
Have the ambition to obtain a PhD within 4 years.
Have an interest in the development and application of mathematic
modeling techniques on social processes related to health.
Have good knowledge of French and have good writing skills in English

Having a working knowledge of R or/and programming skills is an
advantage
