Scientific Project Manager (part-time) at the Max Planck Institute for Neurological Research

At the Max-Planck Institute for Neurological Research

a part-time position (50%) is available for a scientific project
manager/ co-ordinator in the area of cancer genomics starting August 1

2009 until December 31 2011 in the Functional Cancer Genomics lab led

by Roman Thomas .

Our group is a highly dynamic and competitive research lab with active

collaborations with global leaders in the area. Our research is
focused on understanding clinical as well as cell biology aspects of
cancer genomics. We apply high-density SNP arrays for analysis of gene

copy number changes, as well as expression arrays and gene mutation
analyses to generate genetic lesion profiles of large tumor
collections. We apply computational biology and molecular cell biology

methods to understand the biological impact of these genetic
alterations. A particular focus of our work is currently on analyzing

a very large (n > 1,000) tumor cohort as part of an international
collaboration focused on cancer genome analyses.

The position requires a PhD or MD degree and working experience in a
relevant field, such as cancer research, molecular cell biology,
computational biology, biostatistics or oncology. Experience in
molecular biology, cancer genomics, as well as mathematical and
scripting skills (preferably R or MATLAB) are highly desirable.
Candidates should have some degree of leadership experience and
outstanding communication skills.

The successful candidate will be independently driving individual
projects and lead a small team dedicated at high-resolution cancer
genome analyses involving multiple outside collaborations.
Furthermore, the successful candidate will be responsible for all
communication inside a national cancer genomics research endeavor. For

further information please contact Roman Thomas (e-mail:
n...@nf.mpg.de) or see our website atwww.nf.mpg.de/index.php?

The Max Planck Society aims at increasing the percentage of women in
research positions and strongly encourages women to apply. The Max
Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and particularly
welcomes applications from individuals with disabilities.

Please submit your application including a detailed CV, list of
publications, two references, and a brief statement of research
interests as a single .pdf file by email only by July 20, 2008 to
Roman Thomas: n...@nf.mpg.de.
