Training on “Current Trends in Bioinformatics Teaching & Research” at Gauhati University

Background: The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt of India has been pleased to set up Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) in the Gauhati University, Guwahati Assam in February; 2008.The centre is a member of Northeastern Bioinformatics network (NEBInet) and Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISnet).The Centre’s facilities include dedicated lease line Internet connectivity from BSNL, DELL servers with DELL PCs with LINUX and Microsoft Windows operating system, HP Printers, Xerox etc. and major Bioinformatics tools.
 
Objectives: The objective of the training is to create awareness towards application of Bioinformatics tools among Research scholars and college teachers in biological sciences.
 
Course Contents of the Training Course: Bioinformatics overview, Biological Databases & Information retrieval, visualization softwares, PCR primer designing, Biostatistics, Genomics & Proteomics.
Faculty: Faculty for the Training Course will include eminent guest speakers from Gauhati University and neighbouring institutions working in the field of Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Structural Biology
 
Methodology: Lectures, Demos, Hands on Session and Workshop.
Level of participants: College / UniversityTeachers and Research Scholars in Biological Sciences.
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of Computer and Molecular Biology.
 
Number of participants: Number of participants will be restricted to 15.
Accommodation: Participants are requested to arrange their own accommodation.
Location: The University Campus is 12 km away from the Guwahati Railway Station and 10km from Guwahati Airport.
Registration Fee: Rs. 600/- (includes course work material and lunches; may be paid in cash)
