The Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, a National Laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research is one of the world’s premier institutes engaged in research in the area of leather science and technology associated with several international and national programmes seeks to recruit in the following expertise areas at Scientist Gr. IV (2) and (3) level from talented and dynamic Indian Nationals for the following scientific positions.

Scientist Group(IV)

S4201 Microbiology
Qualification: 1st Class M Sc or PhD in Biochemistry or Biological Sciences including Microbiology/Biotechnology/Zoology/Molecular Biology/Environmental Toxicology or equivalent with (3 years & 1 yr respectively) of post qualification R&D Experience in Microbial fermentation for production of industrial enzymes or bioactive molecules and downstream processing of biological products and Biodegradation of industrial pollutants and tracing the biodegradation mechanism using chemical and biochemical analytical methods. 
Job Requirements:Person will be expected to work in areas related to production of microbial enzymes and other microbial secondary metabolites, purification and characterization of such microbial derived products; capacity to work in the interdisciplinary areas of molecular biology for strain improvement.

S4202 Bio-materials
Qualification: 1st Class M Sc or PhD in Biochemistry or equivalent with (3 years & 1 yr respectively) of post qualification R&D Experience in the relevant area
Job Requirements: Expected to work in the areas of Cell and Stem Cell Biology, Cell Materials Interactions and Tissue Engineering.

S4203 Bio-products
Qualification: 1st Class M Sc or PhD in Zoology or equivalent with (3 years & 1 yr respectively) of post qualification R&D Experience in the relevant area
Job Requirement: Expected to work in the areas of Biomaterial development for Wound Care Management with special reference of Collagen and other natural Biopolymers.

Salary:Rs.39000/- 

Age Limit: 35 years

Scientist group(III)

S4305 Biotechnology 
Qualification: Ph.D. in Biological Sciences /Veterinary Sciences with at least four years of post Ph.D. research experience in the area of Biotechnology /Molecular Biology/Tissue Engineering with good publication record or Ph D (Engg) in Biotechnology with at least three years of post Ph.D. research experience in the relevant area
Desirable: Knowledge in the area of Collagen 

Work Requirements: To carryout R&D Works involving Proteomics, Genomics, Tissue regeneration etc.

Salary:Rs.40500/- 

Age Limit: 40 years

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

1.All the posts carry usual allowances i.e. Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) etc. as admissible to Central Government employees as made applicable to CSIR. Council accommodation will be allotted as per the priority to be reckoned from the date of joining / availability, in which case HRA/TA will not be admissible.

2.Scientists are also eligible for 2 additional increments (without DA) and Professional update allowance as per Rules.

3.New Pension Scheme which has been in vogue with effect from 01.01.2004 will apply to this recruitment.

4.Higher initial pay could be considered for exceptionally meritorious and deserving candidates.

5.The date for determining the age limit / experience / qualifications shall be the closing date prescribed for receipt of applications. Relaxation in age limit upto 5 years is allowed to Council/Government/Autonomous Bodies/Public Sector employees in accordance with the instructions and orders issued by Government of India from time to time in this regard. 

6.Persons desirous to apply for more than one post may submit separate application for each post with separate application fee.

7.The candidates selected for the aforementioned posts may be posted at CLRI or any of the Regional Centres of CLRI. The services are liable for transfer to any of the Regional Centres of CLRI located at Ahmedabad, Jalandhar, Kanpur and Kolkata.

8.Relaxation in age, qualification and / or experience may be permitted by DG, CSIR at any stage of selection, if the Director of Laboratory based on the recommendations of the Screening Committee is of the opinion that sufficient number of candidates possessing the requisite qualifications and / or experience are not likely to be available to fill up the post.

9.Candidates working in Council / Government / Autonomous Bodies / Public Sector undertakings should send their applications through their employers with the certificate from the employer stating clearly that in the event of their selection for the post, they will be relieved from their respective post. However, advance copy of their applications may be sent before the closing date, which will be considered only if the original application is received through proper channel within 15 days from due date for submission of applications.

10.Incomplete applications in any respect will be summarily rejected.

11.Mere fulfilling of essential educational qualifications & experience does not entitle a candidate to be called for Interview. The decision of CLRI /CSIR in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode of selection, conduct of Interview may also include an open scientific seminar which will be final and binding on the candidates and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection from candidate or his/her agency.

12.The candidates should enclose with the application, copies of Degree Certificates and statement of marks for each level of qualification so that merit is reckoned with reference to the said proof.

13.Outstation candidates, when called for interview will be paid to and fro single second class Rail fare / ordinary bus fare from the normal place of their residence or that declared in the application or from the actual place of undertaking the journey, whichever is nearer to the place of the interview as per the Rules.

How to Apply & Application Fee

1.Prescribed Application form which is available on CLRI website www.clri.nic.in. should be filled completely in all respects and the printout of the Application supported by attested copies of certificates of educational qualifications, experience, etc together with an application fee (if applicable) of Rs.100/- (Rupees One hundred only) single A/c payee Bank Draft of State Bank of India (SBI) with six months validity, payable at Chennai in the form of crossed Demand Draft valid for at least 6 months in favour of Director, Central Leather Research Institute payable at Chennai is to be sent in an envelope superscribing Application for the post of Scientist Group-IV(Area-Post code)to the Controller of Administration, Central Leather Research Institute, S P Road, Adyar, Chennai 600 020, so as to reach on or before 18/09/2009. Fee once paid will not be returned under any circumstance.

2.Application submitted on line will be treated as complete only if the hard copy of the application duly signed and complete in all respects, along with relevant documents and demand draft, if applicable, are received at CLRI on or before the last date of submission of applications.

3.Candidate belonging to SC/ST/Physically Handicapped category and regular employees of CSIR are exempted from payment of application fee.

4.Separate applications along with appropriate fees are to be made for different posts if a candidate is desirous of applying for more than one post.

5.Candidates who are applying from abroad may enclose draft along with the application in currency of concerned country equivalent to Indian currency of Rs.100/- plus service charges of bank etc.

6.Candidates should specifically note that the applications received after the closing date for
any reason whatsoever (such as envelopes wrongly addressed, delivered elsewhere, postal delay etc.) will not be entertained by CLRI. Any enclosure received separately subsequent to the receipt of the application cannot be connected therewith. No representation in this regard will be entertained.

Check list: Attested copies of following documents must be attached along with the application form.

1. Secondary School certificate showing Date of Birth.
2. Degree certificates - for each level of qualification
3. Mark sheets of Educational qualifications - for each level of qualification.
4. Experience certificates.
5. Demand Draft of Rs. 100/-. Drawn on State Bank of India
6. Certificate of SC/ST/PH – for the purpose of fee exemption.

Canvassing in any form or bringing of any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as disqualification.
