Project Title: Developing novel therapies against stroke in diabetes.
Area of responsibilities/description of the work
The project is about developing a new therapy for the treatment of stroke in diabetic patients. The methods involve systemic and stereotaxic intracerebral injections of drugs in rodents, applying novel treatments to rodents with a stroke induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion. Knockout mice are used for certain projects. Analyses include: histology; immuno-histochemistry; behavioral tests; real time quantitative RT-PCR; Western blotting.
The project is multidisciplinary and it will be run within the Unit of Diabetes Research headed by Professor Åke Sjöholm. Our Research Center has excellent core facilities, a highly interactive scientific environment and the goal to translate our research to the clinic.

Qualifications
The candidates should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience and preferably two years postdoc experience at academic or company level. Important backgrounds of the candidate include: rodent neurosurgery, experience in confocal microscopy, behavioural analysis, mouse breeding and genotyping. Expertise in brain regeneration and neural stem cell biology is a plus.
The candidate should be adaptable to work within our Research Center as well as with an already established network involving academic groups within Sweden/EU as well as with companies. For this reason, highly developed skills in communication are a must as well as a proven ability to communicate effectively in English.
The position is for two years with possibilities for an extension. A competitive salary and benefits will be based on experience.
