Job Title: Research Associate  
Salary: £26,580 - £38,730 per annum 

Applications are invited for a Research Associate post funded by the Bioprocessing Research and Industry Club (BRIC), to carry out scientific research to determine metabolic markers for the unfolded protein response (UPR) in the bioprocessing yeast Pichia pastoris, in close collaboration with an existing funded post. Correct protein folding may be a bottleneck for production of recombinant proteins in P. pastoris. The UPR degrades proteins that may be misfolded. This project aims to determine metabolite biomarkers of the UPR (in parallel with another post determining gene transcript markers), that could ultimately be used for online process control of bioprocess fermentations. 

Qualification: A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of analytical biochemistry is essential, as is the ability to work unsupervised in a microbiological laboratory, carry out accurate and high-quality bioanalytical procedures, and keep good laboratory records. 
The appointment is full time for a fixed-term until 5 May 2011 and will be based at the South Kensington campus.
